Achieving Elastigirl’s “Mom Hips”

Let’s face it. I do not have the most pronounced hips in the world. Not that there’s anything wrong with that normally! I’m happy with how I look. Buuuuuuut when it comes time to cosplay Pixar’s Hippiest Superhero… well. I needed some extra assistance to pull off the silhouette.

Cue, these giant foam pads, custom made! How, you ask? Well, I traced out a shape kiiiinda similar to a lamb chop. Cut two of those out of memory foam, and just kept shaving it down with scissors until I got a nice, mostly smooth curve out of it. It wasn’t a perfect curve, but honestly without specialized tools, it was as good as it was gonna get.

So how to achieve the smooth look? Well that’s where 2 pairs of shapewear pantyhose come in! Each one helps compress the foam a little bit, and smooths out the rough edges some. So by the time the costume goes on, it looks completely natural! The red belt was great because it helped hide the seamline of the pantyhose, they lined up pretty perfectly for that.

Worked like a charm!

Elastigirl Prints & Digital Photosets

The print I did for Elastigirl was a really fun one! We stitched together 8 different photos of my arm to create the elastic fist, and I absolutely love how it came together.
